How does your product represent particular social 1
1. ‘How does your product
represent particular social
groups?’
By Conor Drake
2. Our lead character in the opening is a young, black female.
We used a number of different methods to represent this social group
in our opening.
3. We use the setting of a coffee bar in one of
the summer flashbacks. This helps to
represent the fact that our characters are
young, by placing them in a trendy and
modern environment.
4. We used the issue of domestic violence to
represent some of the issues that might
arise amongst the relationships within the
youth cultures. Here the camera is used in
a point of view shot
to help represent the
feelings of a young
woman in that situation.
5. In the soundtrack we included a lot of
heavily electric guitar music to give a feel
for the kinds of subcultures that these
characters may be in, as well as to serve
as a synchronous effect to the action and
drama.
6. And finally, the fast-pace and experimental editing
style is used to connote the hectic and
sometimes dangerous lifestyle of many youths,
and the experimental effects used such as this
one reflect the experimentation that teenagers
and young adults inevitably go through.
