1. Accident investigations must balance safety, judicial, and social needs while protecting confidential information. 2. Investigations are complicated by pressures from authorities, industry, media and the public to release information immediately without proper validation of facts. 3. Harmonizing roles and policies between investigators, authorities and other parties is important to build trust and avoid conflicts that could undermine investigations. Clear rules on data access and communication are needed.
