• Small NARA working group
– LOC Culpeper and AVPS, also contributing
• Populating the data cells – more than halfway
done (DRAFT)
• Some structural changes
• Received input from FADGI members at last
AV meeting

evaluating
• Down the side are the criteria we’re using for
evaluation
• Evaluating wrappers and encodings separately

• Section 1: Sustainability Factors (from LOC and
Carl)
• Section 2: Cost Factors (how much does it
cost?)
• Section 3: System Implementation Factors
(how difficult is it to do?)
• Section 4: Settings and Capabilities (what
special or additional features does it support?)

7. Recent Changes
• We’ve added MPEG-2 PS and TS to codecs
– This raised some interesting questions about what
exactly the encoding is doing vs. what the
wrapper is doing, especially in terms of metadata
support
– We might still evaluate the ad hoc .mpg wrapper
on the Wrappers Tab
• Uncompressed 8 and 10-bit were split into 2
columns
– They are distinct and have different strengths and
weaknesses

8. Next Steps…
• Will continue to populate data cells
• Compile narrative
– Planar vs. packed, MPEG-2 wrapper and encoding,
second-tier Encodings, etc.
