2. Introduction
• As director of the Brooklyn/Staten Island Athletic
Basketball League, Craig Raucher leads an organization
created to unburdened the game of court politics. Adults
of varied athletic backgrounds come together during
twice-weekly games. Craig Raucher manages the league
to ensure that each game is filled with players, both
returning and new.
Many opportunities exist for adults to join a recreational
sports league. Large municipalities offer seasonal
leagues for sports ranging from basketball to volleyball.
Adults interested in participating in a city league can
create a team, and must be registered by a designated
deadline.
3. Recreational Sports
• At the time of registration, teams are given the
opportunity to choose the skill level reflective of their
players as well as the day of the week for participation.
Community centers also provide a venue in which adults
may partake in sports. The YMCA, for example, has
branches in more than 10,000 neighborhoods
nationwide and provides outlets to participate in
recreational activities and adult team sports. Those
interested in joining a team can select from soccer,
hockey, and golf, among many other sports. Hiking and
swimming are other activities available to adult
participants.
