Bachata is an Afro Latino genre that originated from the Dominican Republic.
What is Reggaeton?
Reggaeton is music that has been mixed with Latin and Caribbean music. Reggaeton
originates from Puerto Rico.
How did Bachata come about?
In the 1980’s people thought Bachata wasn’t sophisticated enough to be part of the music
everyone listens to. It was mostly played in rural areas in the Dominican Republic.
However, 1990’s those who made Bachata music changed the instrument acoustic guitar
to electric steel string and from then to the present Bachata is known to be popular like
other Afro Latino music such as salsa and merengue.
How did Reggaeton come about?
Reggaeton was around about early 20th century. It was mostly played across Puerto Rico
and Panama.
In the early 1990’s Reggaeton became popular to Latin American youths and in 2004
Reggaeton became mainstream as the music spread from Puerto Rico and Panama to
America, Europe and Asia.

The main instruments used to make Bachata music is lead guitar, rhythm
guitar, electric bass guitar, bongos and guria.
What instruments is used to make Reggaeton music?
Nearly all Reggaeton music uses drumming machines/software to create the
instrumentals. However, some still do use Lead guitar, rhythm guitar and bongos.
What kind of topics does Bachata and Reggaeton associate with?
Most Bachata music is linked to heart-breaks, romance and sadness.
On the other hand, Reggaeton is more to do with violence, love, sex and poverty.
