2. It all started when Elizabeth Houston was born on August 9th ,1963.
Houston ‘s mother, along with her cousins Dionna Warwick and Dee Warwick, and godmother Aretha Franklin , are all
notable figures in the gospel, rhythm. Blues ,pop, and soul genres. Whitney would often perform with her mother in
night clubs as a teenager. She got noticed one night when she was on stage, by a modeling scout. She was the first
colored woman to appear on the cover of Seventeen Magazine. Soon after, Houston signed a record deal in 1983.
Her first single was called “ Someone for me”. It failed to chart in both the U.S and the U.K. However, her next single
“ You give good love” , peaked at number three on the U.S Billboard hot 100. This is when she started her success and
her album began to sell. Houston’s biggest hit at the time was “ The Greatest Love of All” after peaking to number one
and staying there for three weeks.

3. Houston’s first album became an
international success and has been certified
13x platinum (diamond) in the United states
alone and selling a total of 24 million
worldwide. She broke the record for having
seven consecutive number one songs,
beating the Beatles and the Bee Gees.
Houston was the highest earning African
American woman.
In 1992 Whitney Houston married the R&B
singer, Bobby brown.

4. It all started to go wrong when Houston starred in her first film,”The Body Guard” but had mixed reviews and
received a Razzle Award nomination for worst actress. She had a ‘good girl’ image throughout all this time but
during the late 90’s, her behavior changed. She was often hours late for interviews, photo shoots, and
rehearsals. She was also cancelling her concerts. People noticed that she lost a lot of weight. Everyone was
suspicious about her using drugs.
In 2000 Whitney and her husband were found with drugs at an airport. She did an interview and was asked
about using drugs. She said, “ first of all lets get this straight. Crack is cheap.
