2. What is a DJ?
A disc jockey, also known as DJ, is a person
who selects and plays recorded music for an
audience.
Originally, disk referred to phonograph records,
while disc referred to the Compact Disc,
and has become the more common spelling.
Today, the term includes all forms of music playback,
no matter the medium
3. Types of disc jockeys
Radio DJs introduce and play music that is broadcast on AM,
FM, shortwave, digital, or internet radio stations
Club DJs select and play music in bars, nightclubs,
discothèques, at raves, or even in a stadium
Hip hop disc jockeys select and play music using multiple
turntables, they may also do turntable scratching to create
percussive sounds
Mobile DJs travel with portable sound systems and play recorded
music at a variety of events
4. My background
1990 – Learned to vinyl dj since 11 from my cousins (Dj May-z)
1994 – Resident at Odyssey Discotheque for a couple of years
1994 – Spending all wages on vinyl every month
1998 – Left vinyl dj for mpeg3s and skipped CD mixing
1999 – Started using Virtual Turntables (VTT)
1999 – Napster kick started a digital music revolution
2002 – Switched to AtomixMp3 which later became VirtualDj
2007 – The Tonium Pacemaker is pre-released, gave up VirtualDj
