This document is a term paper submitted for an M. Phil in Linguistics at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The paper examines linguistic factors that influenced changes in the English language in the 20th century after the 1920s. Specifically, it analyzes new linguistic approaches that emerged and replaced the traditional Latin-based model of language. The purpose is to explore how these approaches drove changes in language. The study also discusses how linguistic factors impact language teaching and how understanding these factors could help improve English language education standards in Pakistan.

Linguistic Factors involved in English Language Change in 20th Century after 1920s,
Thesis Statement
Along with other factors such as social, cultural, industrialization, scientific inventions,
neologism etc, there are many linguistic factors which influence the language and change it in order to
meet the educational requirements in language teaching process.
Abstract (Foresee)
Until the 1920s, most of the models for language were based on Latin which it self is based on
Greek Model of language. It gave birth to Traditional Grammatical Model of language. It is a fact that
Latin oriented models failed because they did not recognize that each language is unique in its
organization and pattern. This approach also influenced the use of English language and these changes
in English language were based on Latin oriented Traditional Model of language. But with the dawn of
20th century especially after 1920s, the scenario got changed and modern grammatical approaches
began to pave way for establishing new grammatical models. They also change the language. The
purpose of this study is to explore these new approaches and their influence on the phenomenon of
language change. This study is an Action Research (pedagogical) study and researcher will draw
conclusions on the basis of Linguistic Approaches presented by different linguists after 1920s, in the
history of English language.
The linguistic factors involved in language change also influence the language teaching. New
methods of teaching can be evolved on the basis of these factors. With the ever increasing importance
of English language in the Modern World, it has become very necessary to have good command on the
use of English language. The appropriate methods of teaching can improve the standard of language
teaching in the local environment of Pakistan.
