Kamala Nehru College – Case Study 2009
Objective
The college wanted to upgrade their website in a way that could be managed by them in house.
They wanted to empower all their staff to update the website for sections, yet maintain accountability.
The college further wanted to automate a lot of internal communication to their students for faster
access.
Challenges
The college staff / teachers were not equipped to update the website due to lack of technical knowledge.
There was no central team who could update the website regularly on behalf of the teachers.
Although they wanted to automate the communication to their students, yet wanted the same not to be
accessible publically.
Solution Provided
We changed the entire website from a static version to a CMS driven version.
We created multiple levels of Admin and provided individual controls to respective teachers.
The site architecture was such that the every teacher could only update their own subject on the website.
The website did not allow access to the teachers to modify the content on any other section apart from
what subjects they teach.
The principal was given a higher level access where in they could not manage all the sections on the
website and also grant/revoke permissions from teachers for their individual access pages.
The principal can also keep a track of the changes done by the respective teachers with a date and time
stamp.
There was a password protected section on the website which only the current students could access
through a generic password given to them.
The principal could update the notices and other communication for the students on the website and also
manage the generic student password from time to time
Since we realized that the teachers and the staff did not have a technical background, they might need
some guidance in managing the entire software, we imparted a formal training to the entire staff on how
to manage the website and go about it.
We further created a Super Admin whose access was not given to any teacher / principal but was for our
internal use, in case the college wanted any assistance in updating the website.
We also created a section for Alumni where in old ex-students could enrol themselves and could get
regular Alumni related communication.
Results Achieved
The college could now manage the website themselves.
The frequency of changes on the website has increased because of this ease of access.
With the amount of updations happening on the website, it has now been able to achieve a decent rank
in the search engines, without any marketing efforts.
There is now a reason not only for the outside world to log on to the college website, but also for the
existing students to check on internal communications like Examination Results, Schedule, etc.
There was no cost of getting the website updated through third party vendors.

The college now has a database of ex-students which keeps on increasing every year.
