The Water Project By Alan McDonald
Location of Water The Earth is 70% water Most of the water is salt water Only 2% of water is fresh, which we drink
Location of Water pg 2 The most fresh water is in lakes and rivers, and some pockets of underground water called aquifers There are five oceans, the Atlantic (the saltiest),The Pacific(the largest), the Indian, the Southern and the Arctic
The water is evaporated from the ocean, lakes, and rivers and then condenses into cloudsWhen the clouds get to heavy the water falls to the surface as rain, snow, sleet and hailWater Cycle The amount of water on Earth is the same water that has been here for thousands of years
Water Cycle The water is evaporated from the ocean, lakes, and rivers and then condenses into clouds When the clouds get to heavy the water falls to the surface as rain, snow, sleet and hail The precipitation then collects into rivers, lakes, ponds and oceans
Topography of the ocean pg. 1 The sediment of the ocean is made up of eroded land soil, rock, sand and ooze which is made up of dead creatures and protists The ocean floor consist of plains, trenches, and under water mountains formed by volcanoes
Topography of the ocean pg. 2 Coral reefs are living ecosystems made up of the shells of dead animals When coral absorb calcium from the water the coral makes a hard outer shell
Tides and currents The water on Earth is always moving Water currents are caused by wind and density over the water cold water is denser then warm water meaning that the warm water rises above the cold water Salt water is also denser than fresh water
Tides and currents The ocean tides are effected by the moon’s pull on the earth When the moon stretches the water it creates a bulge and is the high tide The spots in between the high tide is the low tide
How Humans Effect the Water Humans have a huge impact on water Ever since prehistoric civilization man has used water for food, trade, travel, and power
How Humans Effect the Water pg2 Mills were used to grind grain into flour and is now used to spin turbines to produce electricity 2/3 of earths population is dependent on fish for food Millions of crates are delivered to ports around the world and is a major source of trade
