• According to the Universal Service
Administrative Company (2010), “E-
Rate”:
– Provides discounts to schools and libraries
– Allows schools to obtain affordable
telecommunications and Internet access

4. How it Works
• Funding is requested under four categories
– Telecommunications services
– Internet access
– Internal connections
– Basic maintenance of internal connections
5. Discounts
• Depend on
–the level of poverty
–The urban/rural status of the
population served
–Range from 20% to 90% of the costs of
eligible services
6. Application
• Applicants must provide additional
resources to utilize the connectivity
funded by the Schools and Libraries
