Watching Sports Games with Your Family
1. Watching Sports Game With Your Family
If you are part of an American family, odds are that you enjoy watching sports games with your family.
Whether you are all-American and love baseball, or you’d rather shout and scream at the TV during NFL
games, you most likely love sports.
Many Americans love sports, in fact. Watching
sports games is a common family activity.
But sometimes parents are wary of watching sports
games with their younger children. Sports games
can sometimes come with other unforeseen things.
For example, you may be all gathered together with
your family to watch the latest NBA game, and
during the commercial break, scantily clad women are shown on the TV drinking beer. If you are a
parent who is strict about your children see and watch, this can become a problem.
A Family Friendly Experience
You do not want your family viewing experience to be punctured by unseemly advertisements that you
are almost forced to watch. One way to combat this problem is to mute the commercials when they
start playing.
This will not take the picture away, of course, but it will take everyone’s attention at least a little bit
away from the TV. Take this time to take to your kids about the game.
Try to learn more about the players together,
so that you can form a closer bond with your
team of choice. For example, if you’re
watching a Texas Tech football game, do a
little research about Texas Tech.
As your children pay rapt attention as they sit
on the couch in their Texas Tech apparel, they
will not even take a second glance at any
raunchy commercials that may be splashed all
over the television screen. Another way to not
have to deal with commercials is to record the
game on your DVR.
Not everyone has this luxury, but if you do, you should take full advantage of it. Record the games while
they’re happening, and then gather together as a family at a time that works for everyone and watch
the game.
2. Looking for Bonding Moments
Having DVR can be very nice, because once you’ve recorded the game, you can just fast forward through
all of the commercials. It’s nice because you can avoid raunchy commercials, but you can also get
through your game much, much faster.
Commercials are obnoxious and annoying
anyway, so being able to watch a game without
them is oddly refreshing. It’s important that
you make sure your kids understand the rules
of the game that they’re watching.
Part of being a good parent is recognizing
teaching moments in your children’s lives.
While it may seem silly to try to find a teaching
moment during a sports game, it is definitely
possible.
During the sports game, teach your children about teamwork. Teach them about how working together
to achieve a common goal is often better than just working by ourselves.
If your kids, in their Texas Tech apparel, can find a way to include themselves in the discussion, then you
have succeeded in your teaching moment. Make watching sports games a fun and educational
experience for all, and your children will have many fond memories of their childhood when they grow
older.
