2. Mistake #1: No Keyword Research
Why you want to do proper
keyword research:
1.Find what people are
searching for.
2.Estimate potential traffic.
3.Size up the competition.
4.Avoid bad markets.
Keyword research follows the basic principles of supply and demand. Find keywords with a high demand
and low supply of websites. Then size up the competition to see if you can compete in the market.

3. Mistake #2: No Unique Title Tags
Always choose a unique title tag for each and every
post/page you create. Avoid putting your website title
at the beginning of each tag.
The title tag should contain your exact keyword. This
is valuable SEO space, so use it!
The format of the title tag is as follows:
<title>Put page title here!</title>

4. Mistake #3: Not Using a Description Tag
The description meta tag will help Google understand
your page. Your keyword should appear at least once
in the description tag.
The description tag may be used as the search engine
“snippet”. A useful and catchy snippet can attract web
surfers to your site, but be sure not to sound “salesy”.
The format of the description tag is as follows:
<meta name="description" content=“Put description here.“ />

5. Mistake #4: Artificial Link Building
Google has made it clear,
“negative SEO” does exist.
Low quality backlinks can
destroy your Google search
engine ranking
Build a future. Build backlinks naturally.
Warning: Even in spite of Google’s warnings and the March 18, 2012 update that virtually
destroyed BuildMyRank, there’s not a day that goes by that some so-called “guru” doesn’t launch
yet another auto link building product that claims to hold the keys to the kingdom. Don’t fault victim
to these peddlers of snake oil and bright shiny objects.

6. Mistake #5: Ignoring Social Media
Search engines look to social sites for signals
as to what web content is popular.

7. Mistake #6: Using an SEO Formula
Trying to follow a specific
formula in the SEO of all
your pages is unnatural
and can be detected by
search engines. Avoid
creating “patterns” whether
it be on-page SEO or off-
page link building.
Gaming Google is like trying to kiss a rattle snake!
On-page SEO practices that are fundamentally sound will continue to be effective with Google and other
search engines for many years. Build on fundamentals by creating quality content and social signals.

8. Mistake #7: No Friends in High Places
When it comes to link
building and getting your
content out there, making
friends with influential
people can go a long way.
You can have everything in life you want, if you
will just help other people get what they want.

9. Mistake #8: Building Thin Content
Though there is no magic
bullet here, “thin content”
is a surefire way to upset
the Google zoo (Panda,
Penguin, and the animal
behind door #3).
Give customers a reason to come to your website!
There is no magic word count that will skyrocket search engine rankings. See mistake #6 (trying to
use an SEO formula) for more information. Create your content for your customers and readers.

10. Mistake #9: Stale Content
Search engines favor sites
that provide fresh content.
Keep your website up to date
and add new content
regularly.
If your site never changes,
why would a visitor return?
Give customers a reason to return to your website!

11. Mistake #10: Writing for Google
Instead of writing for search
engines, write for your visitors.
Overly optimized content does
little to engage your readers or
compel them to your call to
action.
Learning to write LSI content is far more effective than keyword stuffing techniques that will most likely
get you in trouble with the Google zoo. Keep keyword density between 1% and 2% of content which
should occur naturally. Bring in other related long tail keywords and LSI topics. For example, if you’re
talking about “red shoes”, you could mention Dorothy’s ruby slippers in the Wizard of Oz.
