• The town was founded by the Vikings in
about 800 AD.
• During the middle ages Wexford was an
old English settlement.
• During the Cromwellian conquest of
Ireland in 1649, many of his inhabitants,
were killed.
• County Wexford was the centre of the
1789 rebellion against British rule.
• The literary author John Banvillen was
born in Wexford.
