Africa is the second largest continent, covering about 11.7 million square miles and home to about 10% of the world's population. It is roughly 2.5 times the size of the United States. Africa contains many important physical features, including the Nile River, Congo River, Niger River, Sahara Desert, and Atlas Mountains. The continent also has significant natural resources and varies greatly in its climate and vegetation zones from tropical rainforests to savannah grasslands.
