PROPOSAL RESEARCH TOPIC ACTUAL SMART PHONE   BACKGROUND Today, smart phone like blackberry, iphone and others are equip with many kind of applications that are before their exist is the thing that all around us. Like the available of clock, alarm, weather forecast, calendar, games, calculator and many others. With the size of a human palm, we can have anything that was not possible before in past half century. As long there is applications that made to resemble it in real life. Phone now no longer only for calling in and out. It is the way of life and a must for today daily life.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATIONThe problem will be how many things or items that can actually can be display during the installation.Would it be things or items that be display are the real life items or just to make a miniature or model to resemble the real things or would it be both. 4. AIM AND OBJECTIVESThe aim is to make us know what the actually application is base on the real life and the surrounding. Objective is to make us aware or realise that as time goes by, application for smart phone is slowly taking it place in the real world.
MOTIVATIONMy motivation for this installation is that I want to make the installation as real as possible.   IDEATION AND CONCEPTThe idea is that the installation would be big as 6ft high 4ft wide and the platform would be made as real as a smart phone but bigger in size. All the application that be display would be the real thing if not. Like the calendar apps, the will be a real calendar will be display or a real mail for email.
RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS Smart phone user Malaysia has increased dramatically over the past 5 years.  Out of eight in ten adults today are smart phone users. And with the use of mobile technology has come the development of an “apps mania.”  As the mobile phone has change from a voice device to a multichannel device to an internet-accessing mini-computer, a large market of mobile software applications, or “apps,” has rise. The most popular are apps that provide some form of entertainments (games, music, food, travel and sports) as well as those that help people find information they need and accomplish tasks (maps and navigation, weather, news, banking). For example :
CineApps Before there a smart phone, people will get in line to buy movie ticket at cinema, but now with the Cineapps, user can just buy or book movie ticket without goes to the cinema. CineApps is the most anticipated movie application in Malaysia for the iPhone users to get the local cinema showtimes, check on "Now Showing" and "Coming Soon" movies, watch movie trailers, and many more. It is a MUST HAVE application for movie fans.1 Malaysia Hotlines      Last time, Yellow Pages is a hard fill with hundreds pages and as heavy as 1kg. Now with the 1 Malaysia Hotlines Yellow Pages, it is only a finger away.       1Malaysia Hotline is an iPhone application that provides Yellow Pages listings and useful numbers nationwide such as contact for the emergency line, the helpline, utility, government, hospitals, local authorities, police, tourism, airlines and more.
With the technology of the smart phone, the term “app” has become popular. For the purpose of this, apps are defined as end-user software applications that are designed for a smart phone and which extend the phone’s capabilities for users to perform particular tasks. What are the most popular types of apps? This is based on 17 people that I do interview survey about popular apps.1. Games Apps2. Social Networking3. Music/Entertainments Apps4. Maps/Navigation Apps5. Office Related Apps6. Travel/Lifestyle Apps
Context. My real context here about the smart phone applications is that how we tend to put or create something that is real in this world to a cyberspace. Many young generation and the future generation will not realize that application that in the smart phone is actually all around them. Some will never got to know the real thing that exist in the application. For an example the compass apps, some never got to see and touch the real compass. In order for applications designer to make compass apps, they have to study the real compass in order to make it into an applications for smart phones. There will always be pro and con in what ever it is.The crossroad of nearly everything in real world that been put in to the cyberspace and using the cyberspace to co-exist with us with the things that we done in the real world is amazing. There is no limit in the use of cyberspace. It is like we are living in both world that need very much each other to make it possible.
IDEA DEVELOPMENT
CONTEXTUAL STUDIES The choice that I had made to do this style of installation with the subject of cyberspace is that it can’t be ignore anymore that the internet is going to be our second home and a choice to live as second live to escape the reality world. As there are wide range of subject that have big impact to the real world in term of technology item or network. As for network, it is the medium to relay or mind in the cyber world. “Cyberspace. A consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate operators, in every nation, by children being taught mathematical concepts."- William Gibson
The influence that got me to do this subject is the rapid growing of user in the social network. It seems that the world is becoming small by a simple click of a mouse. Now there is no place we can’t go without people surfing the internet. It also motivate me to know how much I can respond to the limitless end of cyberspace as myself is not a frequent user of any social network. “I also wanted Parker to operate in the Internet age without losing being Parker. He's always operated in the world without really being with the world, and cyberspace means that the rest of us are more and more living the same way.”- Donald E. Westlake

FINAL SYNOPSIS People today are connected to internet nearly everyday from a computer to smart phone. A small device like smart phone is no longer just a phone to receive and make call but it’s like a key to the door to the world of cyberspace. The subject is the cyberspace and how it has influence our daily life in the real world. The important and role of cyberspace can’t be ignore as how the world is now working side by side with it. It create an illusion that living a second life in the cyberspace is the way to escape reality. A big advantage for the frequent internet user as social network is now a huge bubble that no one can resist plus it is a new way of lifestyle. As that you are alive if our are constantly connected. The installation itself show us that we live in a small world that anybody can know someone from kilometers apart. Social network has play a big part in this.
