This document discusses challenges to community partnerships and provides examples of successful partnerships. It suggests taking a small pilot approach, addressing concerns, and adopting a community-driven, strength-based paradigm. Examples are provided of partnerships between schools and communities in Seattle, as well as international examples from Taiwan, Cuba, and more. University-community partnerships are also discussed, noting how a long-term, community-based approach led by community members can provide more sustainable benefits. Examples of lifelong learning programs involving communities in Seattle, Taiwan, and other places are also presented.
