3. Elma Duckworth
Elma portrays a traditional 1950’s waitress. This
costume would be something that an actual
waitress during that time would wear- plain
and simple. She has an air of naivety and
innocence that attracts Dr. Lyman
4. Grace Hoylard
Grace is the owner of the small local diner that the
bus riders have to take shelter in. This is something
that a traditional diner owner would wear.
5. Will Masters
William is the sheriff in the small town. Because the
play takes place in a small town west of Kansas
City, I want the sheriff to have a sort of small town
feel with a southern emphasis. He should have a
commanding
6. Cherie
This would be something I would want Cherie to
wear. Although I would want her to be blonde, I
like the elegance and sophistication of the dresses
here. She works at a nightclub and I want her to
portray the feminism and sexiness of the character.
7. Dr. Gerald Lyman
Ideally, Dr. Lyman would be an older gentleman
but I picture him wearing something along these
lines. Being a former college professor he would be
sophisticated and experienced both in his travels
and relationships.
8. Carl
Carl is the bus driver. Here he is pictured with fairly
simple clothing. This is how I would picture him.
During the play he sneaks off to have sexual
relations with Grace and I would expect his
costume to be rather under the radar just like his
personality.
9. Virgil Blessing
Virgil is the young ranch hand that travels with Bo.
The two of them would dress pretty similarly but I
would want Virgil to kind of have a sense of youth
and potential adventure. At the end of the play,
he is left all alone and I would like that to be taken
as hopeful for the future.
10. Bo Decker
Similar to Virgil, Bo would have traditional a
cowboy getup- the hat, vest, chaps, etc. He is a
little bit older than Virgil and is focused solely on
getting Cherie to marry him.
