Concerned about the pollution in their environment, students at City School, Kasur launched a multi-pronged campaign to tackle the problem head on! They identified problem areas and worked with the municipality to clean them up. They also prepared and distributed posters and pamphlets to raise awareness. Furthermore, they ran a plantation drive followed by a monitoring plan to make sure these changes endured.

5. • Garbage & pollution are taking over our city! Both are
working together to make our city a BAD place. If you
find some garbage, think about what’s happening.
Garbage will always cause pollution. Even when we
dispose of garbage correctly, it goes into a landfill. The
problem with landfills is it can poison air, land and water.problem with landfills is it can poison air, land and water.
But we can do something about this. More than half of
the cities in this country are running out of places to put
their garbage. Did you know 75% of garbage can be
recycled but only 15% is? We have limited resources like
trees and minerals that would be easy to eliminate if we
are not careful.
6. Did you know each person in Pakistan
throws out about four pounds of garbage
every day? 14 billion pounds of trash is
dumped into the ocean every year. Alldumped into the ocean every year. All
people in Pakistan make enough garbage
each day to fill 100,000 garbage trucks.
These unbelievable facts are true.
7. There are 3 ways we can help our earth.
1.Reduce1.Reduce
2.Reuse
3.Recycle
8. Reduce and Reuse
• There are lots of ways you can help reduce trash. A way to get rid of
old clothes is to give away things. Many companies take
hand- me-downs
to help people who are less fortunate. You can remake dresses
from these clothes! If you recycle worn tires, shoes, purses, new
tires, and chemicals could be sorted and reused. Another way to
help is not to use too many little juice boxes because one big juicehelp is not to use too many little juice boxes because one big juice
box uses less cardboard than 24 little juice boxes. Using Earth
friendly products also helps. Look for these phrases on things you
buy.
• Green Seal Certified products do not hurt the planet
• Recycle
• Product made from recycled material
• Product is Acid Free
9. • Composting:
• Another way to get a benefit from your trash is to create a
compost station. Compost soil is great for plants, gardens and
yards.
We can use:
• Kitchen waste examples eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds,• Kitchen waste examples eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds,
vegetable peelings (any uncooked vegetable waste)
• A container with a lid
• Grass cuttings
• A large container with a rain proof lid
• A spade
• Soil with worms and creatures like ants, woodlice or millipedes
• Chemical fertilizer or starter compost with nitrogen
10. • Instructions:
• Fill the bottom of your container with a layer about 4 to 6 inches of waste.
Don’t add plants to compost because some seeds may not decompose)
• Cover the waste with about 1" of soil.
• Keep on building up the layers with a thin layer of soil between each layer of
kitchen waste. Don’t pack layers too tightly air should circulate through the
compost. The top layer should be a layer of soil.
• Add some fertilizer or starter compost to your compost. You could add
grass, which is rich in nitrogen, but fertilizer will get your compost working
faster.
• Bacteria, fungi, earthworms and other creatures will all get to work on your
compost. You will not be able to see your bacteria but it will be there.
• The inside of your compost will get hot which will be caused by the bacteria.• The inside of your compost will get hot which will be caused by the bacteria.
The compost should reach its top temperature in about 2 or 3 weeks.
• In about 3 months your compost will be ready to be used in your garden.
Adding compost to flower beds and vegetable patches will help the plants
grow quickly
• Earth Machine - Recycling bin for kitchen waste and other types of
waste.
• Open Recycling Bin for Yard Waste.
11. Recycling
• What does recycling mean? It means to use
something again or to use a product to make
another. Recycling helps by already being the
product. You can recycle paper, glass, plastic,
cans, metal, building material, plant matter andcans, metal, building material, plant matter and
cardboard. Recycling paper can help us by not
cutting down too many trees. Trees make the air
we breathe clean. Did you know every ton of
paper that is recycled saves 17 trees? So if we
recycle our paper we will be saving our trees
and making our air better.
12. • Recycling Facts
• These are some facts about how recycling can help
• 1. Pollution affects the Ozone layer, which protects us from the
suns harmful rays. There are already 2 holes in the Ozone layer.
This effects the Earth’s temperature and if it gets to heat the
glaciers, they can melt, sea level can rise, land can be flooded and
the weather patterns can be effected.
• 2. Each hour people in our country use 2.5 million plastic material.
Recycling one ton of plastic saves the equivalent of 1000 - 2000Recycling one ton of plastic saves the equivalent of 1000 - 2000
gallons of gasoline.
• 3. 65 billion aluminum soda cans are used each year. It takes
90% less energy to recycle an aluminum can than to make a new
one.
• 4. The energy saved by recycling a glass bottle instead of making
a new one would lit a light bulb for 4 hours.
• 5. The earth has limited natural resources, if we recycle our trash
then it makes our resources last longer.
13. • Educate public through
• Posters
• Pamphlets
• Banners
• Meetings and discussion
• presentation
• Lead by example
14. • Realize Higher Authorities e.g.
• DCO
• Municipal committee• Municipal committee
• MNA/MPA
15. Implications:
• Planting trees
• Put large dust bin in each area• Put large dust bin in each area
• Monitoring work progress
• Continuous observation
