3. Introduction.
• What is Pollution
• Different types of Pollution
• Sources of Pollution
• Effects of Pollution
• Measure controls
4. What is Pollution?
Defination:
When harmful Substances Contaminating
the Environment is Called Pollution OR
Pollution is anything which harms the
environment in any way
Pollution refers to the very bad condition
of environment.
5. Different Types Of Pollution.
Air Pollution
Water Pollution
Noise/Sound Pollution
Soil Pollution
Pesticides pollution
Radio active Pollution
6.
7. Introduction Of Air Pollution
Any visible or invisible particle or gas found in the air
that is not part of the original, normal composition.
Air pollution is the most harmful form of pollution.
It is increases day by day.
Indicates whether pollutant levels in air may cause
health concerns.
Sulphur oxide, Notrogen oxides & Carbon monooxides
are majorPollutant.
8. What is Smog
Smog (Smoke + Fog=Smog)
It is Combination of smoke and fog
Forms when heat and sunlight react gases
(photochemical smog)
Occurs often with heavy traffic, high
temperatures, and calm winds
9. Air pollution also responsible for Acid
rain.
Sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, Nitrogen
oxides togather they form Acid Rain
Acid rain are great threat to british environment.
Acid rain are carried away from wind to another
place
10. Sources of Air Pollution
High Proportion of undesirable
Gases, such as sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide
which are released by Industries.
Gases released by vehicles
Man-made coal, wood and other fuels
The pollution also accure by naturally By Volcano &
jungle fire
Garbage Cigarette smoking Radio active elements
Crackers also causes Air pollution.
11. Effect of Air pollution
Smog related deaths were in London in 1873;
were total 500 peoples was died
Causes respiratory problems and bronchial related
deaths
Carbon monoxide from automobiles emissions can
cause headache at low levels andeven death at higher
levels
Acid rain affects on aquatic life & other living
organisms
12. Control Measures
To reduce emission of nitrogen oxides water should use in
combustion system
Avoid using and use electric stoves
Do not Burst Crackers
Learn more; stay up to date
Use bio gas on the place of coal for coocking
Use LPG in vehicles
Ride your bycicle
Make sure your parents get pollution checks on their cars
By adopting cleaner tecnologics
Plant more Trees.
14. What is Water Pollution?
Presence of harmful substances & toxic materials in water
known as ‘Water Pollution’
Water is a precious natural resource.
Water Pollution is Caused by organic and inorganic industrial
wastes and effluents discharged into rivers.
Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these
bodies of water. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not
only to individual species and populations, but also to the
nature biological communities.
About 40% of Deaths worldwide are caused by Water
Pollution
15. Sources Of Water Pollution
Sewage & other waste: Sewage are waterborne waste
derived from home(domestic waste) & animals or food
processing plants.
It includes human excreta, paper, cloth, soap, detergents etc.
Industrial effluents: A wide variety of both inorganic &
organic pollutants are present in effluents from dying
textiles, parer & pulp mills, steel idustries, mining
corporation etc.
The pollutants includes oils, greases, plastics, metalic
wastes, heavy metals, phenols, toxins, acid, dyes DDT etc.
About 180 mollion liters of toxic effluents are discharged
into the Periyar river every day by the industrial units in
greater Cochin area.
16. Agricultural waste:
These includes chiefly chemicals used as fertilizers
& pesticides used in disease control.
They reaches to water bodies along with
irrigation, rainfall, drainage.
Sea accidents:
Accidents which happen in seas due to this marine
water life also disturbed.
17. Effects Of Water Pollution.
About 40% of Deaths worldwide are caused by
Water Pollution
People are getting diseases like
Cholera, Typhoid, Diarrhoea etc.
Aquatic life gets disturbed & hence it affects
on human health.
Water pollution also affects the marine food
chain.
Fresh water is not available.
18. Control Measures
• Rivers should not be used for washing clothes or
bathing animals in.
• Harvesting of Rainwater to meet water
requirements.
• Dams & embankments must be created.
• The rivers must not be contaminated.
• In sacred river like Ganga the dead bodies shouldn’t
thrown.
20. What Is Noise/Sound Pollution
• Noise pollution is defined as unwanted sound
which originates from human activities & which
is harmful to us & other living organisms.
• What is the difference between sound and noise
• In simple terms, noise is unwanted sound.
Noise pollution is very harmful for ears.
• Sound is a form of energy which is emitted by a
vibrating body and on reaching the ear causes the
sensation of hearing through nerves.
• Noise pollution is very harmful for ears.
21. • The noise originates from human activities, especially the
urbanization and the development of transport and
industry.
• The sound is pleasant or not depends upon its
loudness, duration, rhythm
• Two basic properties of sound are (i)loudness &
(ii)frequency.
• Today all cities are becoming noisy places.
• The strength of sound measured in term of decible
(db).(deci = 10 & bel after the name of Scientist, A.
Graham bell)
• The movement against noise pollution is weak in India.
Most of the people do not consider it a pollutant, and take
it as a part of routine life.
22. Sources Of Noise pollution
• Transportation:- aircraft ,bus, trains ,cars traffic jams
vehicles’ blowing horn.
• Special events:-Loudspeakears
• Machines in factories produce a lot of sound.
• Loudspeaker, used in functions & meetings.
• Air craft Noise
• Noise from construction and civil engineering
works.
• Railway engines.
• Festival ‘s noise: Fire crackers
• Loud noise in houses: T.V ,Tape recorder,
23. Effects Of Noise pollution.
Noise pollution can cause hearing loss & deafness
Sleep Disturbance
Noise also causes visual disturbance
Lack in concentration
Heavy feelings
Irritated feelings
Headaches
Increase in heart beats was found amongst industrial
workers in Russia.
Noise also affects on patients
24. Controll Measures
Air ports must be away from residential area.
Hospitals & School Colleges declared as Silent
Zones.
The Government should ensure the new machines
that Should be noise proof.
Pleasant Home
Sound affects our ears so loud noise should be
avoided.
