Turning from Experience to Achievements
Dr.T.V.Rao MDOur lives go on many times without our consent, we express many times
it has just happened. If we look back, Life provides us with many experiences. In these experiences,
regardless of them being good or bad, there can be many lessons, inspirations, solutions, and
wisdom one can learn from. It only takes a short moment of reflecting upon them with an intention
to learn and move ahead. I was privileged to be selected for short term Diploma, at Spastic Society
of India,Bombay in 1986, as I wish to have a break from monotonous job, a wonderful place how
teachers are committed to put the people in order and make them learn with the spastic disabilities,
It was difficult for me to adopt with the circumstances to be with so many disabled children,
however I have to learn something from everyone it was this idea that helped me to overcome many
difficulties to survive in Bombay, a City of many goods and find every one’s first priority is to survive.
Bombay is city of utter riches and of the very poor majority are connected with their jobs than even
their families. Many times we think we are normal with all abilities do not find the usefulness of our
abilities. I started learning from disabled children the life is complex phenomenon as god may not
give many things, to all, the reason I do not know ?, I learnt the meaning of life from the very sweet
children encaged with the many deprivations, in few days I tried to be friend with many. However
they start waiting your presence and there are no inhibitions if you are human to them you have
friend in them. It only takes a short moment of reflecting upon them with an intention to learn and
move ahead. Similarly there are many parallels in life with certain basic things we do. The best way
to rehabilitate our differently abled children continues to be Organizing our work, use clear and
analytical thinking, being courteous and tolerant, and choosing our words carefully are some of the
things we should do at work and in our professional environment. But we seldom choose to adapt to
such behaviour at home and amongst our family and friends. If we choose to adapt such behaviours
at home as well, we can avoid a lot of simple problems the clutter out personal lives. Choosing to
listen more and inspire by our own behaviours are some of the key things we can apply in many
different aspects of our lives. If we can apply these principles, and demeanour at work, we can do
the same while playing sports, and in our personal lives, at home, amongst friends and work
placeetc. Best lesson I learnt is if you are little patient everyone is your friend, In spite of few weeks
association as learner the great depressing moments are when we have to leave the Institute as
training period is completed , many children are holding hands and even crying when they come to
know all of us are leaving. However it was a great emotional moment which I cannot afford to
forget. I realised that are we using our abilities as wished by God who has given a duty to do better
things, Even few weeks I have spent it has brought lot of transformation in me and started helping
spastic children at my work place. Many expressed best transformation in life for everyone is how
you transform in life from being a student to a teacher, from child to a parent; we all should believe
the difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In
life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.” – Tom Bodett, Life provides us with many
experiences. In these experiences, regardless of them being good or bad, there can be many lessons,
inspirations, solutions, and wisdom one can learn from. It only takes a short moment of reflecting
upon them with an intention to learn and move ahead. Similarly there are many parallels in life with
certain basic things we do. Life is full of crevasse, foot holds, hand holds steep ascends and sharp
declines. Life is huge with several sharp edges and rugged patches. Amongst these lie our several
hidden opportunities and dangers. And it is how we make use of these and how we manoeuvre
ourselves is what makes our life a success or failure. My patience with disabled children made me to
try for a post-graduation in Government College. Which I am able clear easily, so life is such, and life
is very similar to climbing a mountain. Always look ahead and up towards your future and the next
move up. Do not look down as your past could be too steep a fall and it’s also something you have
left behind and moved on and as you continue your climb up, you lose sight of the past, but the
experience always lives on. My association with many deprived make me learn and believe the
words ofAldous Huxley,Experience is not what happens to a man. It is what a man does with what
happens to him. Every day I thank for giving wondrous opportunities to do better things in the world
the short time we live in the world. As grownups we typically spend most of our time thinking about
tasks, events, and how we will move forward in our lives. We rarely take time to reflect upon the
experiences we encountered along the way and the wisdom we gained from living our lives so far.
Life’s ups and downs, wins and losses, heartaches and celebrations, provide a captivating and honest
reflection of our lives. Because each of our life experiences is so different, no two lives are the same,
and no one’s wisdom is parallel. Best way live in the world is learn to do something new with many
experiences we have gained.
