About sustainable development in Sweden
As the host country of the United Nations Conference on Human Environment in
1972, the UN's first major conference on international environmental issues, Sweden
is the advocate and pioneer for environmental protection and sustainable
development.
Her opinions and voices on sustainable development
"For sustainable development, we need to have all three dimensions together - social,
economic and environmental. It's when we have these working and supporting each
2. other that we have sustainable development."
"It's important when you talk to the private sector, you don't just ask them to add CSR
as something additional to what they do but also to have a special department to deal
with it. Many companies do it this way. I think it's very important in sustainable
development to bring in CSR as a part of the main process."
"We(Sweden) have a roadmap for 2050 where we are going to be free of CO2
emissions. It is now being developed. We have set the goals."
"With the RIO conference coming up, it comes at a time when the world is in an
economic, financial and environmental crisis. This conference has to be about faith
and hope that there is a future and that leaders will be there to take strong action
towards that future. "
"We believe that sustainable development goals is going to be a possible way forward
where we can come together on a global initiative to pin point where we should go in
important areas like energy, food security, water, oceans etc. Sustainable cities are
another very important concept Sweden takes a great interest in."
"There are a lot of crises going on now. People in general are in crisis mode. I just
hope it will be a catalyst for new and innovative solutions, we need a new model that
will be based on the three dimensions - economic, social and environmental."
