Daniel Henrotin was born in Marche-en-Famenne, Belgium, in 1943. After studying at the Art School of Liège, he started working as a comics artist in 1966. In collaboration with Greg, the editor-in-chief of the Tintin magazine, who had written a poetic story about Olivier Rameau and the people of Dreamland. The story marked the debut of Dany's first successful and longest running series. Much of Dany's early work was drawn in a comical style, but in the late 1970s he produced more realistic drawings while in collaboration with writer Jean Van Hamme. He obtained critical success and reached a wide audience. His main commercial success came in 1990 when he started a series of erotic joke comics with "Ça vous intéresse?" (rooie oortjes). The series was an instant success, and many artists and writers have collaborated on the books, magazines, and multimedia that have followed since. The present file is a tribute to the art of Dany and comprises > 100 posters of the Olvier Rameau series about Roze Bottel and Duifje Vleugelslag (colombe)

Biografie
Dany begon als reclametekenaar. Na een ontmoeting met Mittéï werd hij zijn assistent en werkte mee aan Les Trois A, Indésirable Désiré
en Rik Ringers, waarvan hij de decors tekende.
In 1966, na zijn legerdienst, begon hij in de studio van Greg en werkte aan Quentin Gentil en Les As.
Hij werd ook een trouwe medewerker van het tijdschrift Kuifje.
In 1968 maakte hij op basis van een scenario van Greg zijn eerste stripreeks Roze Bottel, die tot vandaag nog verschijnt.
In 1978 maakte hij samen met Jean Van Hamme Harlekijn, waarvan drie albums verschenen.
Greg vertrouwde hem in 1979 Bernard Prince toe, nadat Hermann afgehaakt had. Hiervan maakte Dany twee albums, waarna hij zelf het
werk doorgaf aan Édouard Aidans.
Met Rooie Oortjes lanceerde Dany in 1990 een reeks albums met erotische humor.

Biography
Daniel Henrotin was born in Marche-en-Famenne in 1943. After studying at the Art School of Liège, he started working as a comics artist
in 1966, as an assistant for Mitteï, an artist working for Tintin magazine. Dany worked there for a year and then had to leave in order to do
his military service.
Afterwards, he started collaborating directly on Tintin magazine with illustrations and short stories, and worked in the studio of Greg, the
editor-in-chief of the magazine. Greg wrote a poetic story about Olivier Rameau and the people of Dreamland, and it marked the debut of
Dany's first successful and longest running series. Dreamland is very similar to the worlds of L. Frank Baum's Oz and Lewis Carroll's
Alice and Dany drew an adaptation of Alice shortly after starting the Olivier Rameau series.

4. Much of Dany's early work was drawn in a comical style, but in the late 1970s he produced more realistic drawings while in collaboration
with writer Jean Van Hamme. This included Histoire sans héros ("Story Without a Hero") in 1977, which was a one-shot adventure story
about the survivors of a plane crash trying to find a way out of a dense South American jungle. It obtained critical success and reached a
wide audience.Dany and Van Hamme also came up with a series called Arlequin, the adventures of a freelance secret agent and master of
disguise made in the spirit of The Persuaders! which was very popular in continental Europe.
Meanwhile Greg and Dany would collaborate on some other short-lived series, and in the 1990s Greg wrote the final two stories of
Bernard Prince for Dany after Hermann had quit the series. (a character based on Prince had featured in one of the Arlequin stories).
But his main commercial success came in 1990 when he started a series of erotic joke comics with Ça vous intéresse?. The series was an
instant success, and many artists and writers have collaborated on the books, magazines, and multimedia that have followed since.

bande dessinée.
Dany, diplômé de l'Ecole supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Liège, s'oriente dans un premier temps vers une carrière d'illustrateur publicitaire.
À la suite d'une rencontre avec Mittéï, il devient son assistant et travaille sur Les Trois A, Indésirable Désiré et même Ric Hochet où on
lui confie les décors.
En 1966, de retour de son service militaire, il entre au studio Greg et travaille pour Quentin Gentil et les As (parus dans Pif Gadget). Il
devient également un fidèle collaborateur de l'hebdomadaire Tintin pour lequel il réalise de nombreuses illustrations.
C'est en 1968, sur un scénario de Greg, qu'il crée sa première bande-dessinée, Olivier Rameau, dont les aventures se poursuivent encore
aujourd'hui. À la même époque on le retrouve dans Le Soir, où il contribue au collectif Alice au Pays des Merveilles scénarisé par Greg et
publié sous les pseudonymes de Daluc (Dany et Dupa) et Turbo (Turk et De Groot). Cette histoire sera reprise en album aux éditions du
Lombard en 1973, puis chez MC productions en 1987.
En 1975, Dany crée la surprise. Il passe à un dessin réaliste en illustrant Histoire sans héros, un one-shot imaginé par Van Hamme (paru
dans Tintin, puis en album chez Lombard). L'année suivante, pour l'éphémère Achille Talon magazine, il dessine, sur un scénario de Greg,
Jo Nuage et Kay Mac Cloud (un album chez Dargaud, repris chez Les Éditions Joker).
En 1978, il retrouve Van Hamme et toujours dans Tintin, réalise Arlequin. La série connaîtra un album chez Dargaud puis deux au
Lombard avant d'être ressuscitée en 2001 par Jytéry et Rodolphe aux Éditions Joker.
Greg lui confie, en 1979, le dessin de Bernard Prince auquel Hermann a renoncé. Il réalise deux albums avant de céder lui-même la place
à Édouard Aidans. En 1985 et 1987, paraissent deux portfolios : Colombe 1 et Colombe 2, et en 1986, il participe au collectif Les
Histoires merveilleuses des oncles Paul.
Avec Ça vous intéresse ?, Dany lance, en 1990, une série d'albums à l'humour érotique. Les textes sont d'abord crédités à Bob de Groot
mais Dany avoue vite qu'il doit ses blagues coquines à de nombreux auteurs tel que Tibet, Hermann, etc.
Il entreprend Equator en 1992. Alpen Publishers publie un premier récit, puis deux ans plus tard, ce sont les éditions du Lombard qui
reprennent la série avec cette fois Stephen Desberg au scénario.

6. Il apparaît également au sommaire du magazine suisse Junior-Club, avec Les Juniors du rail, une série visant à promouvoir les CFF, la
société des transports ferroviaires helvétiques. Un album sort en 1993.
Jean Van Hamme et Dany se retrouvent en 1996. Vingt ans après Histoire sans héros, ils décident de donner une suite à cet album. Les
auteurs choisissent un titre tout simple : Vingt ans après. L'histoire est prépubliée dans le quotidien belge Le Soir puis repris en album
dans la collection « Signé » des éditions du Lombard.
En 2000, il participe, aux côtés de François Boucq, Coyote et Ptiluc, au collectif Moto Neige - Pas d'bon sens, publié chez Glénat et en
2003, les éditions BFB reprennent en album ses projets de couverture couvrant la période 1970-1997. En 2000 toujours, il participe à
l'album L'Or des fous (album de Lavilliers).
Jonglant avec facilité entre l'humour, la poésie et le réalisme, Dany est considéré comme un des grands auteurs de la bande dessinée
franco-belge.
