Dear Judges:
My name is Rachel Dorris and I am an eighteen year old girl with big dreams. I try very hard in
all I do and try to be the best I can be. I have ran cross country and track for the high school since
eighth grade, lettering all four years. I am an active member of Beta Club, National Spanish
Honor Society, CARES, Spanish Club, and Permaculture Club. Once I graduate from
Creekview, I plan to attend Berry College and major in Early Childhood Education. I also plan to
run competitively with their cross country and track team. Once I graduate from Berry, I would
like to earn my Masters from the University of Georgia. After receiving my degrees I plan to
become a third grade teacher that can hopefully change the lives of many young children!
For my senior project I had two products, the senior breakfast as well as the Grizzly Envelope
Project. In December, I organized the senior breakfast feeding threehundred and fifty-four
seniors. With my Grizzly Envelope Project I am collecting letters and cards to the seniors from
their loved ones that will be handed to them in a keepsake envelope the last week of school that
they can treasure forever. Both of these projects focus on people’s need of service and why they
should be served. It is an act of kindness that makes them feel good about themselves. Through
the project I encountered a few problems such as at the beginning of getting my project approved
I had to add on the breakfast, since the teachers did not think the envelope project was rigorous
enough. Also, another problem I had was since the envelopes are not being handed out until the
last week of school, the letters are still in the process of being collected as of right now.
These two projects consisted of a lot of organization and time management which is needed to be
a teacher or event coordinator, both careers I am interested in. I learned that if you have to take
one task at a time and to not get overwhelmed by the stress of it all or it will not turn out as
successful as I wanted it to. Also, a big factor I had to work on was communication. I constantly
had to email parents back and forth about volunteering and donating for the breakfast, as well as
answering questions about the Grizzly Envelope Project.
Although very time consuming and stressful, I feel that I would not feel complete and ready to
go off to college if I had not completed my senior project. I feel that it has left me with a feeling
of accomplishment. Completing the senior project I was able to make senior year more special to
all the students, which really was my number one priority since it is a big school year for
students with graduation and going onto the next stage of their lives. Thank you so much for the
time you have put aside to come judge these projects. I hope you enjoy my project as much as I
did!
