The video starts with a heartbeat undertone which introduces a few shots from the
video, this is along with the title of the artist in a big bold font. The camera work used
vary from close-ups to mid shots which show differentiation. The shots are in sync
with the diagetic sound and show good timing by switching in time with different
beats. The mise en scene is very old school, they are dressed in 1970's fashion but
updated. This shows a contrast between the old fashion and new. all the clothes
worn including shoes are very colourful and this is a style we will try to portray in our
video. The heartbeat builds suspense at the start which prepares the viewer for the
rest of the music video. The song is upbeat and is very much alike the one we have
chose, it also has a skateboard in it which portrays it is for the teenage market. The
clothing is very bold, a lot of chains and crisp clothing reflects the wealth and spirited
of the youth. The setting is in daytime and night time which shows a contrast as they
are dancing throughout which reflects the idea of being able to dance and have fun
no matter what time it is. Within the song the boys meet together to dance, this
shows unity and a pact between them as they all are happy and being themselves.
The lighting is bright and reinforces the colours of the clothing they wear, this also
helps to show that the song isn't boring and dull but unique and different. There is a
lot of different cuts are used which show a range, this keeps the viewer interested
and helps with the flow of the video. The music matches the events that occur within
the video, this keeps a interaction with the storyline of what's occurring. the song is
called 'you're a jerk' this is reinforced with the lyrics of the song sang the dancing
too. 'Jerk' is a word commonly used in America by girls, this is a sort of rude word
used to describe a boy who is very rude and unpleasant. They are dancing in the
middle of the street which is an stereotypical view of that kids hang around the street
and also up to no good such as messing around and causing chaos, this also has
another viewpoint which is that they have nowhere else to go and is the only place
they can feel relaxed and where they can be themselves which is reinforced which
the freedom of dancing. The type of dance associated with this is used throughout
the video, this creates a connection and then when the song is played that dance is
the first thing to be remembered. the urban vibe to it is what is new and popular
within America, this is a new fashion trend that is emerging within the u.k and is
something we will try to introduce in our video. A lot of the camera work is still and
very focused, this shows more detail to the audience and makes them feel welcome
in comparison to a shot from far or shaky. This also makes the video look more
professional and with a big budget. The urban vibe that it produces makes it easier
for the target audience to relate to, this increases the survival of the song in the
charts and makes it appropriate to who its targeted too. They are not very famous
but with the style of editing they used they made it look like they are a popular
group, this is something we will try to do with all the equipment and programs we
have available to get the best response out of our video. They also use gadgets
such as their phones which is an important part in the video as it is how they
communicate to arrange where to meet and dance, this is the most common way
nowadays to contact friends and peers which is the reality of the new technology.
