sexually transmitted infection

– Ulcerative and inflammatory STDs compromise
the mucosal or cutaneous surfaces of the
genital tract that normally act as a barrier
against HIV
– Ulcerative STDs include:

• Inflammatory STDs include:
chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis

with HIV were receiving antiretroviral therapy
(ART) in low- and middle-income countries.

• Standard antiretroviral therapy (ART) consists
of the use of at least three antiretroviral (ARV)
drugs to maximally suppress the HIV virus and
stop the progression of HIV disease.
