§ Here are a few of the critical factors that may affect you when you
have these procedures done:
§ Cost: Price is often a factor when considering cosmetic dental
procedures, particularly if you have an insufficient dental plan or even
NO dental plan. While insurance carriers differ, even your estimated
patient co-pay for those products and procedures that are covered can
be expensive. So be aware of the costs involved and how they relate to
your current savings and/or credit accounts. Speak with your dental
provider openly and honestly about your cost concerns and explore all
the options available to you concerning financing, paying over time,
loans, etc.

Employment: Work schedules are extremely important, particularly when you
consider that the reason a lot of people want a more attractive A-List Smile has to
do with seeking more confidence on and off the job site. If you are someone who
travels frequently for their job, is a workaholic or doesn’t have a lot of sick days or
down time associated with your current job, then employment may be a big factor
in when you can have your procedure. That is why it’s important to know what,
exactly, is involved with each product and procedure – see Step 4 – so you can
know exactly how long you need to take off of work to recuperate, if any time is
needed at all. If necessary, you may want to schedule your appointment on a
Friday so that you can take the weekend to recover. For other procedures, you may
need longer, or shorter, recovery times. Either way, the more you know, the better
you can prepare for scheduling in advance.

§ Health: Your health is of the utmost importance when scheduling any
dental procedure, be it surgical or non-surgical. Anytime anesthesia,
needles or appliances are involved, you need to be free of sickness. That is
why your dental provider wants to know so much about your physical
health the first time you make a visit to his or her office. Sometimes,
medical clearance is needed by your medical doctor before we begin
dental procedures. Even things like whether or not you smoke, exercise,
drink alcohol or take drugs can affect how your dental provider treats you.
So if your health needs to improve before you have any products or
procedures done, don’t rush it; your body, and your dentist, will thank you
for waiting!

§ Invest in a calendar – no matter how late in the year it is – and
look ahead in the months remaining to determine the best time for
your procedure. My patients find that seeing the dates in question
in black and white on a calendar really helps them make better
decisions as to when, exactly, to have their procedures done.
