Sun Damage
SUN DAMAGE can occur through direct sunlight
or by over exposure in a tanning booth. A small
amount of sun is beneficial and activates vitamin
D in the skin which helps make strong bones and
teeth. Over exposure causes premature aging,
wrinkles, loss of elasticity, brownish spots known
as “age spots” or “liver spots” and several types
of cancer. Even dark skin can be damaged by the
sun, but very light skin is the most vulnerable.
Sunburn accelerates these changes and is even
more dangerous than constant tanning.Treatment
Choices: Intense pulsed light devices (IPL) used at
Aesthetic Medicine, such as the Syneron SRA target
damaged areas. Biopsies of these areas have shown
actual reversal of scarring, inflammation, broken
capillaries, and pigmentation which characterize
sun damaged skin. Significant rejuvenation can
be accomplished with minimal down time.
Several treatments are required to achieve
desired results, but rejuvenation can be dramatic.
These treatments are relatively painless.

Acne
Our center has performed over 10,000
treatments for rosacea over the past ten
years. Treatments can help to remove the
spider veins, diffuse redness, small red
bumps, flushing and inflammation that
rosacea produces. Significant clearing takes
3-9 treatments. There is normally minimal
pain and downtime with each treatment.
(Acne Vulgaris) can produce emotional and
physical pain, scarring and disfigurement and
has historically been very difficult to treat. At
Aesthetic Medicine laser therapy is our long
term solution of choice for acne. Two painless
treatments are used, a true laser and a state
of the art IPL (Intense Pulsed Light Device) both
are FDA approved.
Touchups will need to be performed
periodically to keep the rosacea under
control. Appointments are usually scheduled
2-4 weeks apart until the desired results are
achieved. Patients have travelled from all

We have treated hundreds of patients with
laser therapy over the last several years. Eight
treatments are recommended, the first four at
two week intervals and the last four monthly.
Even some of the worst cases of cystic acne have
responded to this protocol.
The treatments can also reduce scarring, redness
and wrinkles at the same time. We have had
patients remain in remission for several years
after a series of treatments. However, some
patients, especially teen-agers, may require
ongoing maintenance treatments. Not all
patients respond during the series of treatments.

Botox
®
Botox® is the most popular cosmetic procedure
performed in America today. Botox® consists of a
purified protein which, when injected, relaxes the
muscles in an area for a significant period of time. It
is frequently used between the eyebrows to prevent
scowling, in the forehead to prevent furrowing and the
temple areas outside the eyes to prevent “crows feet.”
Botox® is a relatively safe procedure. Occasional side
effects do occur. Botox ® is found to alleviate
migraine headaches when injected between the
eyebrows. Dysport® is a product recently released
and is similar to Botox®.
Fillers
Juvéderm® , Restylane® or Perlane® are the most
popular lines of new fillers for deeper wrinkles around
the mouth, between the eyebrows and to enhance
the lips — These fillers have an extremely low incidence
of allergic reactions, and last six months to one year
around the mouth and about three months in the lips.

Dr. Jerry Darm
DR. DARM has practiced aesthetic medicine for the past fifteen
