School assignment done 1 year ago. 10 minutes presentation. I assumed the role of a researcher, investigating how the website of the online arm of a national grocer can be revamped to increase customer satisfaction. My proposed solution is to adopt a "less is more" approach. This theme is also incorporated into the presentation. The presentation only contains screenshots of relevant websites. Other than the title of the presentation, name of presenter, and a thank you note in the last slide, no other words are included. The presentation is mainly driven by story telling on my part. Slide 2-3 tells the story of Google and yahoo. How Google managed to beat Yahoo in the business of search engines by not giving people what they don't want. Also, the faster loading time of seconds due to the simplified interface employed by Google also made a lot of difference to users. Slide 4-5 chronicles the pains that customers of www.coldstorage.com.sg have to endure in their shopping trips. Over 40 links plastered across the entire page makes navigation extremely challenging at best. Slide 6 is an example of a slightly better website where the links are better placed and the overall feel is less cluttered. I had to sell to the audience the idea that online grocery is in fact no different from search engines. People know what they want, and they want it fast. If they had time to shop, they would have gone to the physical store. "Stickiness" is a misguided principle in this case. The mission of the online grocery store would be to enable customers to make an "in and out" transaction within 10 minutes. Slide 7 is a dummy front-page I created with MS Paint; purpose being to illustrate how a better designed site will increase the willingness of customers to actually start shopping. Also, no website should challenge their user in the course of surfing. Slide 8: End of presentation
