2. In Samuel 24 we have found that the nation had
sinned and God was angry with the people.
2 Samuel 24 1 And again the anger of the LORD
was kindled against Israel, and He moved David
against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.
Hebrews 10 26-27 For if we sin wilfully after that
we have received the knowledge of the Truth, there
remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain
fearful looking for of judgment and fiery
indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

3. 70,000 dead in 3 days
David repented.
God stopped the angel just before he decimated
Jerusalem with the pestilence.

4. 2 Samuel 24:18 And
Gad came that day to David, and
said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD
in the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
19 And David, according to the saying of Gad, went
up as the LORD commanded.
According to well-founded tradition, this threshing
floor, a wide, smooth, ledge-like surface, was on
Mount Moriah, just outside the northern wall of
David’s Jerusalem. But David had no right to it
because it was owned by a citizen.

5. 20 And Araunah
looked, and saw the king and his
servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went
out, and bowed himself before the king on his face
upon the ground. 21 And Araunah said, Wherefore
is my lord the king come to his servant? And David
said, To buy the threshing floor of thee, to build an
altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed
from the people.

6. 22 And Araunah
said unto David, Let my lord the
king take and offer up what seemeth good unto
him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and
threshing instruments and other instruments of the
oxen for wood. 23 All these things did Araunah, as a
king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the
king, The LORD thy God accept thee.
A generous offer!

7. Those know not what religion is, who chiefly care
to make it cheap and easy to themselves, and who
are best pleased with that which costs them least
pains or money. For what have we our substance,
but to honor God with it; and how can it be better
bestowed?
Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.
Some go to church for what they can get,
rather than for what they can give and do.
Wrong mindset!

8. Romans 12 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by
the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which
is your reasonable service.
1 John 5 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep
His Commandments: and His Commandments are
not grievous.
Jesus died, shedding His Blood to wash away our
sins, saving us from sin and from hell.
It is not unreasonable for Him to expect us
to live our lives according to His Word.

9. Araunah offered to give the threshing floor and all
that David needed for the sacrifice.
24 And
the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will
surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer
burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which
doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing
floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
We pay our tithes and give offerings out of all with
which God has blessed us through our labors.
If it costs us nothing, it is worth nothing.
9
10. 25 And
David built there an altar unto the LORD,
and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So
the LORD was entreated for the land, and the
plague was stayed from Israel.
Simple obedience.
It was not the altar nor the offerings that
God blessed, but the obedience.
10
11. 1 Samuel 15 22 And Samuel said (to Saul), Hath
the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and
sacrifices, as in obeying the Voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to
hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as
the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as
iniquity and idolatry. …
To stubbornly rebel against God’s Word
is to rebel against God.
To willingly obey is to
love God.
11
12. Luke 6 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good
measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and
running over, shall men give into your bosom. For
with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall
be measured to you again.
God says for us to give generously,
and He will bless generously.
Those who give or do for God – grudgingly –
Will not be blessed abundantly.
12
13. Some folks think that the
tighter they squeeze their
money, the more they will
have to hold on to.
God says that the more
generous hearted we are, the
more that He will bless us.
But be careful to give wisely, not wastefully.
To give to an addict is to increase their addiction.
To give to the wasteful is to be wasteful.
13
14. Ephesians 4 28 Let him that stole
steal no more: but rather let him
labor, working with his hands the
thing which is good, that he may
have to give to him that needeth.
Why work?
To have an abundance out of which to give.
Need is necessity.
14
16. 2 Corinthians 8 12 For if there be first a willing
mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath,
and not according to that he hath not.
Proverbs 3 9 Honor the LORD
with thy substance, and with the
firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with
plenty, and thy presses shall burst
out with new wine.
16
17. God does not want us to give away our
necessities to help someone else.
1 Timothy 5 8 But if any provide not for his own,
and specially for those of his own house, he hath
denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
17
18. God never asks for anything which
He has not first given us.
