3. Paul’s nephew revealed to the chief
captain a conspiracy to kill his
Uncle Paul.
The Roman captain believed him
and took immediate action.
Acts 23
3
4. Acts 23:23 Andthe chief captain called unto him two
centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred sold-
iers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore
and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third
hour of the night; 24 And provide them beasts, that
they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix
the governor.
470 men
4
5. 25And he wrote a letter after this manner: 26 Claudius
Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix
sendeth greeting. 27 This man was taken of the
Jews, and should have been killed of them: then
came I with an army, and rescued him, having
understood that he was a Roman.
The exact truth was that he rescued Paul, was about
to flog him, and then found out he was a Roman.
5
6. 28 And when I would have known the cause where-
fore they accused him, I brought him forth into
their council: 29 Whom I perceived to be accused of
questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to
his charge worthy of death or of bonds.
A dispute over the Jewish religion was very
important to the Jewish religious leaders,
But meant nothing to the Romans.
6
7. 30 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid
wait for the man, I sent him straightway to thee,
and gave commandment to his accusers also to say
before thee what they had against him. Farewell.
He may have thought that the Jews would drop
the whole matter if they had to travel so far,
But he didn’t know their zeal about this.
They had rejected Jesus as their Messiah,
and killed Him.
They meant to kill all who preached in His Name.
7
8. 31 Thenthe soldiers, as it
was commanded them,
took Paul, and brought him
by night to Antipatris.
The dangerous part of the 27 miles
trip was the 35 miles from
Jerusalem to Antipatris. 35 miles
From there to Caesarea it
was less likely that they
would have any trouble.
8
9. 32 On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with
him, and returned to the castle: 33 Who, when they
came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the
governor, presented Paul also before him.
The worst danger over, the horsemen could
travel much faster without the other 400 men.
They arrived in Caesarea and presented the
Apostle Paul along with the letter from
Claudius Lysias to Felix the Roman governor.
9
10. 34 And when the governor
had read the letter, he asked
of what province Paul was.
And when he understood
that he was of Cilicia; 35 I
will hear thee, said he,
when thine accusers are
also come. And he
commanded him to be kept
in Herod's judgment hall.

11. Acts 24:1 (TLB) Five days later Ananias the High
Priest arrived with some of the Jewish leaders and
the lawyer Tertullus, to make their accusations
against Paul.
The High Priest Ananias with his entourage
traveled the 62 miles to Caesarea
To bring their charges against Paul before the
Roman governor Felix.
Jesus had said that it would be like this:
11
12. John 15 18 If the world hate you, ye know that it
hated Me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the
world, the world would love his own: but because
ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out
of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
12
13. John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you,
The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have
persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they
have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for My
Name's sake, because they know not Him that
sent Me.
13
14. If a Christian is not being persecuted, but is
accepted by the lost world,
He ain’t doing it right.
He is compromising. He is sinning with
Loving the world. them.
We must walk straight in the Path
that God has ordered for our lives.
