3. Joshua 15 13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the Commandment of the Lord to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron .

4. As we learned last week, Caleb was not born into the Tribe of Judah. How did he obtain land in the midst of Judah?

5. Numbers 13 30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once , and possess it ; for we are well able to overcome it . Forty-five years earlier, when the ten spies had come back scared, saying, "We can't."

6. Proverbs 18 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Matthew 12 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

8. 14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak -- Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15 And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher. Faith is not apathetic. Faith doesn't just talk . Faith is not fearful. Faith moves with God.

10. 16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. 17 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

11. 18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him , that she moved him to ask of her father a field: {Apparently, he wouldn't do it.} and she lighted off her ass; {Probably kneeling before her daddy} and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou? A daddy's heart would be tender toward his daughter on her wedding day. She's moving to the mountains, married to her first cousin.

12. 19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. "Dad, you've given me land but no water." "Give me that other field too, with springs of water." 19b And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether (lower) springs.

13. Matthew 7 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in Heaven give good things to them that ask him? Luke 11 9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

14. Vs 20-62 lists a multitude of the cities that were occupied by the Tribe of Judah. Two exceptions : They did not drive the Jebusites out of Jerusalem . Bethlehem is not even mentioned. Either there was no one there at that time, or it was so small it was not worthy of mention.

15. Joshua 15 63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day. God had said, "I will drive them out." If they had stepped out with faith in God , they would have driven the Gibeonites out of Jerusalem.

16. But they were content to let them dwell there. Perhaps because they were afraid to attack. Perhaps they saw no harm . In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"

17. 2 Corinthians 1 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, Who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in Him was yea. 20 For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

18. Let us be like Caleb, Othniel, and Achsah, A family of believers who acted on their faith.
