Joshua is instructed to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land as Moses' successor. God promises to be with Joshua and tells him to be strong and courageous. Joshua commands the people to prepare food for their journey across the Jordan River in three days. The tribes of Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh pledge to help the other tribes conquer their lands before returning home. The people commit to following Joshua as they had followed Moses, as long as God remains with their leader.
2. Joshua 1 Moses is dead. Get up and lead the people into the Land I have given. Be courageous and strong; I am with you.
3. 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law , which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
4. Everything that God said to Joshua and the Israelites, He says to us . When we live our lives according to His Word , Carefully, Willingly, Joyfully We will have good success in this life. God will bless us with everything we need.
5. Joshua 1 10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it. No longer would God rain manna from Heaven to feed them every day. They're home ; they will gather and eat. That is still God's Provision .
6. 11b for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it. How could Joshua say that with such confidence? God had first said it to him. We can speak the Word of God with confidence.
7. 12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying, 13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land. These 2 ½ tribes had asked permission to settle east of Jordan near the border of Canaan. Moses made them commit to help fight for the Promised Land.
8. Numbers 32 23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out. When God begins to bless your life , don't forget about everybody else; Don't get so busy enjoying your blessing, you forget about the rest of the family.
9. 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valor, and help them; 15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as He hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
12. 16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go. 17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses. As long as God is with you, we will follow and obey you.
13. If a leader strays from God, turns his back on God, and begins to walk in his own way : He does not deserve the loyalty of his people. 1 Corinthians 11 1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. We all need to know the Scriptures for ourselves. We won't be led astray.
14. 18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage. People speak too lightly of commitment; "I have to follow my heart." "I just don't feel that way any more."
15. People go from job to job, mate to mate, church to church, And think it is okay. Steadfast convictions Know God's Will. A man who wavers between right and wrong, good and evil, God and self, Will never be blessed as God wants to bless.
16. We must stand steadfast upon the Word of God. Trust and obey every Word of God.
17. No shortcuts on God's Path . God's Way is the Way of Blessing . His Way or no way.
18. Proverbs 3 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart ; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
