Wisdom versus folly – both portrayed as women.
Wisdom and its rival folly are portrayed as two
women each preparing a feast and inviting young
men to their houses. Wisdom is portrayed as a
responsible woman of character and wealth
preparing a banquet, while folly is portrayed as a
harlot inviting young men to a sensual meal of
stolen water and food eaten in secret.

3. 3
Proverbs 9 1 Wisdom hath
builded her house, she hath
hewn out her seven pillars:
2 She hath killed her
beasts; she hath mingled
her wine; she hath also
furnished her table
4. 4
Wisdom is productive in good works.
Wisdom makes certain the family has a home,
food and drink, all their needs met.
Wisdom doesn’t waste God’s Provision for the
family; Wisdom uses resources wisely.
5. 5
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon
the highest places of the city,
The Lord has sent out many to
teach His Word.
The only source
of Wisdom.
6. 6
4 Whoso is simple (seducible), let him turn in hither:
as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to
him, 5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the
wine which I have mingled.
You can live wisely, if you want to.
The Lord is calling out to everyone.
Wisdom is there to receive or reject.
7. 7
It is vain to seek the company of wicked men in the
hope of doing them good; we are far more likely to
be corrupted by them. It is not enough to forsake
the foolish, we must join those that walk in
wisdom.
Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the
way of understanding.
8. 8
Folly is a seductress; a tempter.
She tempts each one with his own weakness.
Hebrews 12 1 Wherefore seeing we also are com-
passed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let
us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth
so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the
race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the
author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy
that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and is set down at the right
hand of the throne of God.
9. 9
Lay aside every weight
Not every hindrance in our Christian walk is sin.
Your hindrance may be a person who seduces you
away from a dedicated Christian walk.
It may be an obsession that draws your mind away
from Jesus Christ, the Word of God.
It may be self-pity that steals your joy and peace.
It may be self-absorption that blinds you to Jesus.
10. 10
“Lay aside every weight (hindrance)
and the sin that easily besets us.”
It is within our ability to do so.
Ephesians 6 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in
the Lord, and in the Power of His Might.
God has given us His Holy Spirit, and He has
given us Christian brothers and sisters
To help us stand strong in righteousness.
To help us resist the devil and temptation.
11. 11
We desire either Wisdom or folly.
We seek what we desire.
One who is constantly being seduced is
one who wants to be seduced.
Learn to love God and His Word.
12. 12
Get so busy seeking God and drawing near to God
that there is no time left in which to stray.
Seek out Godly fellowship with the family of God.
Stay away from the seducers of this world.
This world and its sinful pleasures are not
your friends; they will destroy your life.
