State of the Union 2014 Response
On January 28, 2014, President Barack Obama addressed this year’s State of the Union.
Throughout the speech, there were highs and lows to his speech.
The high points in his speech were when he brought up that America is finally a good
country to invest in. It shows that our country is doing better than it does since we are
recovering from a recession. It helps make us equal to countries like China. He also brings up
that our country is growing. How we are striving for everyone to reach their full potential. He is
trying to get the American Dream back. Obama wants us to still keep trying to get jobs. He
asked American businesses to continue to grow and provide more jobs for Americans. He did
bring up that over the past year we have been able to get more Americans jobs. Another good
point was that there are more jobs for veterans. This is something that needs to be able to
continue to grow. Another very good point was that he is wanting woman to have equal pay.
Something that I think is an in between point of high and low when Obama brought up
how Americans are tired of this stalemate. The reason I say this is because it was good that he
addressed it but at the same time I do not think he will do anything about it. We will continue to
be in a stalemate until reelections in Congress and the presidency.
Some low points of his speech is when he said that he is going to everything in his power
to middle class more jobs. I think he has been saying that for the past five years and will
continue to say that. He is basically going to do whatever he wants to do. He is making
promises that he cannot keep. During the education portion of his speech on education, he talked
2. about how students shouldn’t have to rely on standardized tests to get into college. But it seems
like there is more and more standardized tests.
Overall, I think Obama was basically saying that he is going to do whatever he wants to
do. He doesn’t have much time left in office and he wants to try and get things his way done.
