3. What do you think is the scope of literature?

4. The scope of literature is anything that can be
conceived by the human mind.
Literature is that which comes from life of men
and so it envelopes the life of every man from the
poor to the filthy rich.

Literature with its vast range is multi-disciplinary.

6.  Religion
Religion is the relation which man bears to ultimate
being.
• It is concerned with the substance which lies behind
phenomena, and also with the duty which man owes to his
being, universal and eternal.
• Literature and Religion spring from the same
fundamental sources.
 It seeks to explain, to justify, to reconcile, to interpret and
even to comfort and to console.

7. Examples:
 the writings about how different religions
and belief’s came to be.
 the Bible (Christian) Koran (Muslim)

8. Philosophy
Literature and Philosophy have been opposed to
each other as often as they have been combined.
According to Plato:
Literature is contrasted with philosophy as falsehood
is with truth and derived it with the other tradition as
not constituting a realm of falsehood but as second
only to truth

9. Examples:
 Plato’s Dialogues which talks about the dialectical
outcome of the interchange of ideas between
clearly drawn vital personalities.
 Kael Marx Das Kapital in which he expresses the
social passion he shares with the Hebrew prophets
of the old testament.

10.  History
 History in the wider sense is all that happened, not
merely all the phenomena of human life, but those of
the natural world as well.
 it includes everything that undergoes change.
Example is the development of the cities and the civilization of men
