III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activity
Motivation
1. Show pictures of the following:
a. a poor man
b. studying or working
c. a man who became rich
d. a man living in a big house
e. a man with his friends celebrating a party
f. a man who became poor and who helped beggars
2. Ask pupils to say something about the pictures or let them sort out the
pictures.
• Which picture do you like more? Why?
3. Ask: Do you know of a man who gave up a comfortable life just
to serve the poor and the sick? Did that person feel sad or sorry
afterward? The story you are about to read is about that kind of
person-a self giving person.
Value Focus: Humility
Unlocking of Difficulties
Using clues from the sentence give the meaning of the boxed word.
a. Francis had a gentle and generous heart in giving help to others.
(kind, friendly, selfish)
b. Francisco spent money foolishly among his friends, they always had
a party and a night life. (wisely, meaningless, smartly)
c. The Assisians lost in a war and Francis was taken prisoner for one
year. (person with freedom, person with liberty, person behind the
bars)
d. The Pope offered a high position to Francis, but he did not accept it
because he was very humble. (low, proud, boastful)
Brainstorm of the title of the story using webbing.

B. Development of the Lesson
Presentation
1. Reading of the story by the teacher
2. Reading of the story by the pupils
3. Choose a pupil who will read the story for the third time.

2. How would you show humility in your daily activities?
3. If you would meet St. Francis, what question would you ask him?
4. If you were St. Francis would you choose to be like him? Why?
5. Choose which events are real in the life of St. Francis.

Generalization
What is reality? fantasy?
• Reality tells about things that could happen in real life.
• Fantasy tells about characters or events that cannot really happen
or it is a product of imagination only.
C. Post Activities
Application
1. Pantomiming
a. Tell your pupils to think of their fantasy dream. Let them
pantomime it while their classmates will guess what it is.
b. Ask them again to think of their ambition. Let them act it out
again and the class will guess it.
2. Ask them also how they will achieve their ambition

put each one in a proper column.

2. Read each story. Decide if it is real or fantasy. Write real or fantasy on
your paper. Copy also the parts of the fantasy that tells about things
that would not really happen.
a. Warren loves his pet. He has a dog and two puppies, a kitten
and a bird. Often when he is alone in the house, Warren and all
his pets become comfortable and watch television together.
Sometimes they tell each other stories. He shares jokes and
they all laugh together. (fantasy)
b. Warren loves his pets. He has a dog and two puppies, a kitten
and a bird. He feeds them twice a day, once in the morning
before he leaves for school and another time in the afternoon.
When he gets home, his pets seem to love him too. (Real)

  • 1. Reality and Fantasy I. Learning Objectives • Distinguish if an action or event is reality or fantasy. II. Subject Matter A. Topic: Reality and Fantasy B. References: PELC III 4 Story: St. Francis of Assisi Away We Go pp. 191-192 Over the Ocean pp. 271-272 English for Grade IV p.72 C. Materials: pictures, manila paper III. Procedure A. Preparatory Activity Motivation 1. Show pictures of the following: a. a poor man b. studying or working c. a man who became rich d. a man living in a big house e. a man with his friends celebrating a party f. a man who became poor and who helped beggars 2. Ask pupils to say something about the pictures or let them sort out the pictures. • Which picture do you like more? Why? 3. Ask: Do you know of a man who gave up a comfortable life just to serve the poor and the sick? Did that person feel sad or sorry afterward? The story you are about to read is about that kind of person-a self giving person. Value Focus: Humility
  • 2. Unlocking of Difficulties Using clues from the sentence give the meaning of the boxed word. a. Francis had a gentle and generous heart in giving help to others. (kind, friendly, selfish) b.
