How has the emergence of teaching and learning technologies changed the way we think about teaching in a face-to-face environment? Question #1
Students now have news-of-the-moment rather than news-of-the-day They have never used a card catalog to find a book They have always been able to read books on an electronic screen Most have grown up using technologies in daily lives Possess skills to use technologies in mashups to improve efficiency Learn by trial and error rather than logic and rules Expectation of technology being integrated into the classroom Perspective 1: Student
Use technology to assist with preparation, management, and administration but not to support student-centered practices. Continue being teacher-centered rather than student-centered. Lack knowledge on integrating technology into the curriculum. Perspective 2: Instructor
Expectation that new graduates will be knowledgeable in basic electronic communication technologies  Web conferencing Uploading and downloading Spreadsheets and databases Electronic data resources Perspective 3: Employer
Instructional technologies have the ability to greatly enhance the learning experience of students if used appropriately. Instructors need proper initial and follow-up training as well as models of appropriate use. Summary
