2. Introduction
●Joomla is an open source and free content management system (CMS) for
publishing content on the internet.
● It is used by many devlopers across the world for Joomla web development.
●Joomla uses object oriented programming (OOP) concepts and is written in
PHP.
●Joomla is a model-view-controller web application framework that can also
be used independently.
● It includes features such as page caching, RSS feeds, printable versions of
pages, flashes, blogs, news, polls, search and support for language
internationalization.
3. History of Joomla
Usually, “project fork” happens when developers take a copy of source code
from one software package and start development on it independently,
creating a distinct piece of software.
Joomla was the resultant of fork of Mambo which was an open source
content managemnt system for creating and managing websites through a
simple web interface, its last release was 2008.
Joomla Developers created a website called OpenSourceMatters.org (OSM)
to distribute information to users, developers, web designers and the
community in general. Project leader Andrew Eddie wrote a letter that was
visible on the announcements section of the public forum at
mamboserver.com.
4. Distribution
➢LAMP is a combination of open source, free software. LAMP is the
abbreviation for the first letters of Linux (operating system), Apache HTTP
Server, MySQL (database software), and PHP, Perl or Python, principal
components to build a feasible general purpose web server.Similar to many
other web applications, Joomla can be run on LAMP Stack.
➢ Joomla has strong support on the web from hosts that specialize in or
support it. Many web sites provide information on installing and maintaining
its sites.
➢Many web hosts have control panels that allow for automatic installation of
Joomla.
5. Distribution Contd..
➢ On Windows, Joomla can be installed using the Microsoft Web Platform
Installer, which automatically detects and installs any missing dependencies,
such as PHP or MySQL.
➢Due to these benefits, Joomla won the Packt Publishing Open Source
Content Management System Award in 2006, 2007, and 2011
6. Advantages of Template
Components
Layout
The Designs of the main layout are kept in templates for a Joomla site. This includes
where users place different elements (components, modules, and plug-ins), which are
responsible for different types of content.
Color scheme
Using CSS within the template design, users can change the colors of the
backgrounds, text, links, etc as per their requirement using XML code.
Images and effects
Users can also control the way images appear on the page and even create flash-like
effects such as drop-down menus.
Fonts
The designs for these are within the template's CSS file to create a uniform look and
feel across the entire site, which makes it easy to change the whole look just by
altering one or two files rather than every single page.
