 Located in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden 200km North of the
Arctic circle
 ICEHOTEL is the world’s first hotel built entirely of ice and
snow. It is also the world’s largest: 5500 square meter
slarge and built of 21500 tonnes of “snice” (a mixture of
snow and Torne River ice) and 900 tonnes of ice
 ICEHOTEL being designed by artists means that the
creations are protected by the Swedish copywrite law,
this also differentiates ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi from
copycats around the world

because of it’s several purposes
 The dropping of the temperature to several degrees below
zero in Jukkasjärvi marks the start of an ephemeral art
endeavor until spring
 ICEHOTEL offers modern conferences and exciting adventures
year around. They have a lineup of conferences year round in
both the summer, and winter months
 They have an ICEBAR on site and have managed to expand by
having year-round bars in Stockholm, London, Copenhagen,
and Oslo that utilize modern refrigeration to harvest, store and
transport the Torne River ice around the globe. The Art & Design
group, with Artistic Director, Arne Bergh, is involved in designing
every bar. A team sketches and plans at home, and then
constructs and designs the bar on location

trends of futurists
 One prediction was that climates could be
controlled.
 Although they are not controlling their
climate, they are using the climate to control
the resort. A large majority of the hotel
throughout the winter is made from natural
resources
 The 4 Icebars have a year round climate
control of -5°C that is sold to the customer as
an "exhilarating experience"

8. How this Service could impact
your career
 Although this is the 23rd year of the hotel, every year it
brings on new innovation that wasn’t there the year
before keeping it interesting and a leading edge
service
 Showing that this is continuous I think this could lead to
the construction of more eco-friendly resorts that
actually represent the environment one is in
 Utilizing the surrounding environment is how many resorts
sell their services (beaches/mountains), but using the
environment in a way that no one else has is what will
keep the tourism industry under constant change to
have repeat customers

sector
 This would be an excellent site for Red-
Bulls Crashed Ice event where individuals
in hockey gear race down an icy slope
 It has tapped into the convention sector,
but I think this is a prime example of how
organizations can hold events to see
what individuals can create with natural
resources results an environment that is
conductive to new ideas for any group

 The ICEHOTEL is a leading edge organization
because there are several aspects of their
product and service offering that
differentiates it from everyone else
 Although this is a rare hotel, leading edge
practices should be implemented in every
aspect of the tourism industry. It may be more
work to maintain an effective product
however in the long-run this is the only way to
really to maintain continuous positive
experiences for guests
