What is Project Management?
A project is any temporary group activity designed to produce a unique product, service or result.
A project is temporary because it has a defined beginning and
end, and therefore defined scope and resources.
And a project is unique - it is not a routine operation, but
a specific set of procedures designed to accomplish a
singular goal. So a project team often includes people
who don’t usually work together – sometimes from
different organizations and across multiple geographic
locations.

• Project Management is relevant at all grade levels and can be
taught as early as 1st grade using fun, age and grade appropriate
content.
• Project Management helps students learn prioritization and
scheduling of multiple, interrelated tasks that will help them
balance their school and home life.
• Project Management teaches 21st century ‘soft skills’ including
communication, collaboration and creative problem solving that
often fall outside of core subjects like math, science, literature
and history.

Project Management associations such as PMI put particular emphasis on
values that benefit students
• Responsibility - Taking ownership of any decision made (or not made) or
action taken (or not taken) and accepting the resulting consequences.
• Respect - Showing high regard for oneself, others, and the resources you are
entrusted with. Fostering mutual cooperation, encouraging and valuing
diverse perspectives and views.
• Fairness - Acting impartially and objectively, free from conflict of
interest, prejudice, and favoritism.
• Honesty - Acting truthfully in all communications and conduct.

• According to a study by the Anderson Economic Group by
2016 an estimated 32.6 million employees with project
management skills will be needed in the global
workforce.
• Employers are putting greater emphasis on PM skills. The global demand for skilled
project managers is at an all-time high as organizations continue to focus on higher
productivity and greater customer satisfaction with minimum resources.
• Project management skills are universal and can be applied to any
industry or career.

How can we help?
PMINJ is offering a Project Management introductory training sessions for
educators or students. This half day course will provide participants with the
tools and techniques to effectively manage any project. Attendees will leave
with an understanding of project management concepts. These skills can
then be used to create a plan, organize activities and guide others in
completing simple to very complex projects.
The course is titled Project Management Skills for Life,
developed by the Project Management Institute
Educational Foundation
At the conclusion of the course participants will be
provided with access to PMINJ mentors ready to assist
teachers and students with projects during the school
semester
