This training module will Introduce Position Sensors and provide a Brief Study of the SPS-LO75-HALS sensor from Honeywell .
Magnet-ostriction is a property of ferro-magnetic materials such as iron, nickel, and cobalt. When placed in a magnetic field, these materials change size and/or shape. The physical response of a ferromagnetic material is due to the presence of magnetic moments, and can be understood by considering the material as a collection of tiny permanent magnets, or domains. Each domain consists of many atoms.
A position sensor is any idea that permits position measurement. It can either be an absolute position sensor or a relative one (displacement sensor). Position sensors can be either linear or angular. Linear position sensors play an important role in automation control where precision positioning is required. Many manufacturers are looking for new approaches to meet today’s needs of high reliability and accuracy
The SMART Position Sensor, 75 mm linear configuration, is a non-contacting sensing solution for linear absolute position sensing with enhanced speed and accuracy. It senses the position of a magnet relative to the sensor from 0 mm to 75 mm
