This is a training module on CREE Xlamp MC-E and XP-E Color LEDs
Welcome to the training module on XLamp MC-E and XP-E Color LEDs. This training module introduces the XLamp MC-E and XP-E color LEDs and their characteristics.
The XLamp MC-E LED is a lighting-class multi-chip LED providing 4 times the flux as XLamp XR-E in the same footprint, without compromising thermal performance. The MC-E series can allow better color mixing and shadow reduction in color-based applications, with space between LED die reduced by 94%, compared to XLamp XR color LEDs. It has high lumen output from a single device. XLamp MC-E is able to reduce LED system cost by reducing system complexity and the number of components required.
MC-E color LEDs feature electrically neutral thermal path and 150 ºC maximum LED junction temperature. This feature allows the light fixture to make use of FR4 PCB with thermal vias, which is 8 to 10 times less expensive than MCPCB. The MC-E is compatible with JEDEC J-STD-020C standard. This table shows the color LEDs’ characteristics.
The MC-E color LEDs bring high performance and quality of light to a wide range of lighting applications, including color-changing lighting, portable and personal lighting, outdoor lighting, indoor directional lighting, commercial lighting and emergency-vehicle lighting.
There are a few advantages for using multiple die LED. One key advantage is to reduce total system cost. As in the following figures, Using MCE can reduce the number of optic product and reduced size of MCPCB. Meanwhile, MC-E LED also reduces the manufacturing hours in assembling. They have better placement tolerance between LED die. The single point source of light also better emulates the look of traditional light sources.
With the industry’s high performance, the XLamp XP-E color LEDs provide up to 22 percent more flux than the existing XLamp XR color portfolio, with an 80 percent smaller footprint. XLamp XP-E reduces the space between LED die by 75%, compared to XLamp XR color LEDs.
The XLamp XP-E colour LEDs provide more flux than the existing XLamp XR colour portfolio. The XP colour portfolio is available in flux bins, at 350mA, royal blue - 500mW; blue - 39.8 lumens; green - 107 lumens; amber - 56.8 lumens; and red - 56.8 lumens. The XP-E color LEDs feature electrically neutral thermal path and 150 ºC maximum LED junction temperature. This feature allows the light fixture to make use of FR4 PCB with thermal vias, which is 8 to 10 times less expensive than MCPCB. The XP-E is compatible with JEDEC J-STD-020C standard. This table describes the available colors and flux for XP-E LEDs by listing dominant wavelength range, thermal resistance, typical forward voltage, viewing angle, and DC forward current for the entire family
The XP-E color LEDs bring high performance to a wide range of lighting applications, including color-changing, architectural, stage and studio, transportation, commercial and emergency-vehicle lighting.
