Character Education

• The 6 pillars of Character Counts are
  taught through group activities, modeling
  and discussion
• Self-motivation and intrinsic rewards
• “Bucket” filling

Homework
• Read for an estimated 20 minutes per
  night (Minutes and Parent Signature)
• Practice math facts 5-10 minutes a night
• Spelling
• Current Events
• 40-50 total minutes per night - this can
  fluctuate depending on skills being
  practiced and projects assigned
• Every day your child is absent they have
  that many days to make up their work
• Late/Missing work study hall           6

• Shifting from “how to read” to:
  – Reading for information
  – Improving comprehension by practicing
    strategies and skills
  – Building vocabulary skills to improve
    comprehension
  – Thinking critically about the text
  – Inferring
  – Making judgments and evaluating the text

Spelling
• Pretest is on Monday
• Based on the results of the pretest,
  students will receive individualized
  spelling lists
• They study their words throughout the
  week and complete 2 activities from the
  spelling packet due Thursday
• Students bring their lists back Friday and
  are tested on their words

  showing instead of telling

• Revise and edit to clarify thoughts

• Number Sense: Multiply by 2-digit numbers, long
  division, compare and contrast large numbers
• Estimation and Measurement: metric conversion, scale
  drawings, drawing figures with given perimeter and area
• Algebra: Solve number sentences with variables,
  extend patterns
• Geometry: Identify how geometric figures are used,
  compare geometric figures and their properties
• Data Analysis and Probability: Organize and display
  data in a variety of tables and graphs, find the mean,
  median and mode for a given set of data

What You Can Do
• Please contact me if you notice a change
  in your child or something may be
  impacting their learning
• Practice math facts, spelling lists, and
  review with your child for tests
• Take a few minutes each night to be sure
  that they completed the assignments that
  are written in their assignment notebook,
  record their minutes, and sign
• Check Edmodo for class information21

What You Can Do • Please contact me if you notice a change in your child or something may be impacting their learning • Practice math facts, spelling lists, and review with your child for tests • Take a few minutes each night to be sure that they completed the assignments that are written in their assignment notebook, record their minutes, and sign • Check Edmodo for class information21
