Sgt. Louie Ramos Velázquez made the ultimate sacrifice on May 26, 2011 when he died of wounds suffered when
insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. According to Sgt.
Ramos’ father Luis Ramos, Sgt. Ramos commander at the time credits him with saving his life. For his actions, he was
awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart Medal.
