The story of our journey to Uganda started over a century ago and from humble beginnings our activities
have grown from strength to strength in Uganda and beyond. At the forefront of industrial development
and business, we are now one of the largest diversified private-sector employers in East Africa, employing

5. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
• Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda
• The park is part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and is situated along the Democratic
Republic of Congo border next to the Virunga National Park and on the edge of the Albertine
Rift.
• It comprises 331 square kilometres (128 sq mi) of jungle forests and contains both montane
and lowland forest and is accessible only on foot.
• The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site.
• The forest is one of the richest ecosystems in Africa, and the diversity of species is a feature
of the park.
• The park provides habitat for some 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, 220
species of butterflies, 27 species of frogs, chameleons, geckos and many endangered species.
• Floristically Bwindi is amongst the most diverse forests in East Africa, with more than 1,000
flowering plant species including 163 species of trees and 104 species of ferns.
• The park is a sanctuary for colobus monkeys, chimpanzees and many birds (such as hornbills
and turacos).
• It is perhaps most notable for the 340 Bwindi gorillas, half the world's population of the
critically endangered Mountain Gorillas.
• There are four habituated Mountain Gorilla groups open to tourism: Mubare; Habinyanja;
Rushegura near Buhoma; and the Nkuringo group at Nkuringo.

These were built and designed using local materials, such as
forest vines, sisal rope and purple slate stone.
Each room has an en-suite bathroom (with hot water

23. Gorilla trekking
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to more than half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. Through the
undergrowth and thick creepers of the dense Bwindi rainforest, track the famous mountain gorillas. Being in company with
the most peaceful, rare and most endangered of all the apes, is both a fascinating and humbling experience.

Bwindi impenetrable forest holds over 346 species of birds and contains 90% of all Albertine
Rift endemics, difficult or impossible to see in any part of East Africa. For the ornithologist,
close to 100 bird species can be identified in a day
25. Varying trails for hiking
The various trails provide walks and gives you an opportunity to see birds and primates,
pre-historic tree ferns, expansive views across the Park Nationale des Virungas. and on a
less foggy day, the Rwenzori mountains with the forest providing a spectacular backdrop.

This hands-on experience will open your eyes to another world - that of one of Uganda’s
longest forest surviving tribes. It will also show you what other wonders Bwindi
Impenetrable Forest has to offer, in the heart of gorilla land.
