2. The progression from the preliminary task to the music magazine task is very obvious when
comparing the two products alongside each other. An example of the progression is the
edited images, the first image – on the school magazine – is not edited whereas the music
magazine image is. The images are very different; a requirement for the first magazine
cover was to use a close up shot, so I did this, but the second had no requirements, it was
much freer, so I chose a long shot for my cover image. The image on the music magazine
does not look particularly “edited” as such because I only fixed it slightly and enhanced
the colours of her clothes. This was because editing it too much would cause it to look
unprofessional and over-the-top. The first image has not been edited at all – only been
taken out of the background it was in. There is much too much text on the first front
cover, too much so that the readers can’t read it clearly as there is so much, I changed this
when I did my second front cover, I used the names of features and a simple sentence
after, I made sure it was concise so that potential readers could simply glance quickly
rather than have to read.
3. There are many differences in the two contents pages, as with all the images I used editing
software when I produced my second magazine. I used adobe photoshop and
befunky.com to edit my images on the second magazine, but I didn’t edit them on the
first. Also, on the second I thought more about the colours and the idea of a consistent
house style, so the second magazine looks much more professional. In the contents page
for “Volumes” I also used an image I’d taken at a concert. This is because it fitted the the
magazine and helped to create a wide array of different features and images used in my
magazine. I also used the masthead I’d created for the front cover. This helped to make
my magazine more conventional and professional. I also had the advantage with the
second magazine that I had done a lot of research and looked at my target audience
and also already attempted a magazine whereas with the first one I had little knowledge
of conventions and little experience.
