A labour-intensive service brand can be only as strong as the people performing the
service. But, say Leonard L Berry and Sandra S Lampo, there are three guiding
principles for developing strong brands for labour-intensive services: orchestrate the
clues; connect emotionally; and internalise the brand. The reality of such branding is
that service providers’ actions with or for customers transform a company’s brand
