Rumors and Relationships By: Shannon Dougherty, ShayleyTomporowski, & Valeree Van Tine
Rumors: are stories people make up to make you look bad, feel bad or look good They are told from person to person can people can find out easily.
relationship a significant connection or similarity between two or more things, or the state of being related to something else
Rationale about rumors Rumoring is a waste of time and energy Rumors increase anxiety destroy relationships, careers and reputations Rumors reduce the credibility of those spreading them Rumoring reduces trust and confidence
Rationale about relationshipsA healthy relationship… Communicating Respectful Trusting  Honest  Equal  Enjoy Personal Space
A unhealthy relationship... Not communicating  Disrespectful  Not trusting  Dishonest  Trying to take control
Have you ever spread a rumor?
Has a rumor ever been spread about you?
Has this rumor affected you in anyway?
Do you feel guilty for spreading rumors?
Has a rumor ever affected a relationship you have had with someone?
Have you ever found out that you were the cause of ending someone else’s relationship due to a rumor?
Do you think rumors are one of the main causes to way relationships end?
Have you ever ended a relationship due to a rumor you have heard about the person you were either dating or friends with?
Would you believe your partner if a negative rumor was spread and he/she said it wasn’t true?
If not, do you know anyone who has?
Have you ever heard a rumor about something you know is not true?
Be honest, do you “spit game” or “play the field” when you’re in a relationship?
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Would you ever take someone back who has cheated on you?
Are you happy with your relationship choices?
Have you ever made a poor decision that led to ending your relationship and wished you could take it back?
Do you believe that love is all you need to make a relationship work?
 Are all rumors bad?
Do you think a rumor being spread is a lot like the telephone game?
Do you think gossiping is different than rumors?
Survey Results about Rumors: Rumors are spread everyday, sometimes you might not even notice it. 44% of a 100 people said they have never spread a rumor, 80% also included that not all rumors are bad. In contrast, 75% of people said rumors are similar to the “telephone game”. This means the story changes from person to person.
Survey Results on Relationships: 37% of people said they “spit game” or “play the field” while in a relationship, in other words flirt or talk to other people of the opposite sex. 62% of people say they are happy with there relationship choices yet, 48% of people have had their heart broken.
Survey results and Twisted Tyler’s relationship with Bethany ended due to a rumor, similar to some of the students relationships here at West Senior. Also, Tyler had his heart broken because of the rumors other people said about him and Bethany. Rumors go through the “telephone game” just like here at West, especially when Bethany’s nude photos were passed around.
Survey results & research findings Rumors definitely effect relationships and can take a heavy toll on some ones life and cost them there reputation. If there weren’t any negative rumors life might be a lot easier on everyone, and not as many would get their heart broken.
