46. Apple sold over 5.2miPhones in the third quarter of 2009 and it is estimated that by the end of this year there will be at least 100,000 applications for it. (The Guardian, 29 July 2009). Amazon sold half a million Kindles in 2008, and though they have not announced how many they have sold this year, the firm's net sales stood at $5.45 billion in the third quarter of 2009 compared with $4.26 billion in the third quarter of 2008.
